Exploring Stockbridge GA

Stockbridge GA is home to roughly 25 thousand, and is conveniently located 20 miles south of Atlanta in Henry County. The area is known for its small town hospitality, beautiful natural resources, and its proximity to high end restaurants and shopping. Stockbridge offers that perfect mix of quiet, off the path living, while being near to anything you could want. This is one of the reasons it is among the most rapidly growing cities in Georgia, tripling it’s population in the last 20 years.

A Brief History of
Stockbridge GA

In the early 1800’s, the Concord Methodist Church set up shop near what is now Old Stagecoach Road, which were the first modern day settlers of the area. A couple decades later, the town earned its name Stockbridge after a well known and respected man in the community named Levi Stockbridge.

Towards the end of the 19th century, the East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Railroad had plans to pass through Stockbridge on its way from Macon to Atlanta. But the owners of the land in Stockbridge asked for too much money and the railroad company decided to run the line a few miles south of the city. By 1920, the area had been incorporated as a town and eventually as a city, making it just over 100 years old.
