A Brief History of Fairburn GA

Fairburn GA was named after Fairburn, UK. It was founded under a different name back in 1833 and changed its name two more times before finally becoming Fairburn. However, the area where the modern city is located was settled long before the 1830s.

The city developed slowly, and by the 1870s had only around 300 residents. But the pace picked up, and by 1884, the population has doubled to 700 residents.

Due to the arrival of the railroad to the city, Fairburn soon became the county seat of Campbell County. That is, until the county went bankrupt during the Great Depression. Fairburn GA joined Fulton County, where it belongs now.
