A Brief History of Dunwoody GA

Dunwoody GA saw its establishment in the 1830s. The area takes its name from Major Charles Dunwody, however an extra “o” was added on a bank note and the change persisted.

Rail service helped Dunwoody become a city at a crossroads until operations were discontinued in 1921. The surrounding area was largely rural until the development of several subdivisions in the 60s. 

Dunwoody GA incorporated as a city in December of 2008 following a long contested debate. Notable residents of Dunwoody have included ESPN reporter Erin Andrews, soccer player Alex Caskey, actor Robert duncan McNeill, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, and others.
