A Brief History of Brookhaven GA

John Evins first settled Brookhaven in 1810. The land was later purchased by Harris and Solomon Goodwin in the 1830s. Rail service was established through the area in 1873.

Nearby Atlanta citizens started building summer homes in the area that is now Brookhaven in 1900. A planned community with a golf course soon followed and the area incorporated as North Atlanta in 1924. 1963 saw a referendum for a new city, but instead the city disincorporated and the charter disolved.

The issue did not arise again until 2007, and later again in 2011 when state representative Mike Jacobs announced legistlation regarding a city of Brookhaven. 2012 brought official incorporation as Brookhaven GA.
